Carruthers' Cup

Named in honour of George Carruthers MBE, the Carruther's Cup is the last event of the cross country season.

George was a Senior Vice President and Life Member of the club. George's organising ability and capacity for hard work were responsible for the establishment of the inaugural City to Surf race in 1971, and he was Race Director for the first 17 years. George was a member of the Organising Committees of the 1938 Sydney British Empire (Commonwealth) Games and the 1958 Melbourne Olympic Games.

George's interests were many and varied - Alderman Rockdale Council; board member of St George County Council, Cumberland County Council, St George Hospital, St George Medical Sports Clinic, and St Rowing Club - to name a few.

George was awarded:

George died on September 7, 1999 aged 89. He was an old-fashioned "gentleman", at all times courteous and helpful.
