18/4/10 - Commonwealth Games Nominations

Congratulations to Ben St Lawrence for his inclusion in the Australian Athletics Team that has been named ahead of the Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi, India. Ben earned his automatic selection by recording an A-qualifying time and placing first at the National Titles in Perth.

 

17/4/10 - Australian Championships

Congratulations to Ben St Lawrence and Bridey Delaney for your winning performances in Perth. Ben won the Open Men's 5000m event in a time of 13:40.54 and Bridey placed second in the Open Women's 1500m event with a time of 4:18.33.

 

28/3/10 - NSW Championships

Well done to all the athletes who represented St George over the three days of the NSW Championships. Medallists included Bridey Delaney who won the Open 1500m, Matilda Werner who won the U16 Heptathlon, Laura Flynn who was third in the Open Pole Vault, Zoe Schubert who was third in the U18 Heptathlon and Nicole Harris who won one gold, three silver and a bronze medal. Congratulations girls.

19/3/10 - Christchurch International Track Meet

St George athletes Ben St Lawrence & Bridey Delaney have won their respective events at the Christchurch International Track Meet. Bridey won the women's 1500m in 4:16.73, while Ben won the men's 5000m in 13:48.28. Congratulations to Ben & Bridey.

4/3/10 - Melbourne Track Classic

Ben St Lawrence has recorded an A Qualifying time for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Ben finished fourth in the Open Men's 5000m, and was the first Australian. Bridey Delaney has recovered from a minor track collision to win the Open Women's 1500m event at Olympic Park, Melbourne. Bridey finished in front of Beijing Olympian & 4:05 athlete Lisa Corrigan and 4:10 athlete Kaila McKnight. Congratulations to Ben & Bridey.

27/2/10 - Athlete Subsidies

St George athletes who compete for their State at championship events such as the Australian Junior Championships may qualify for financial assistance from the Club. Athletes need to apply for financial assistance using the Financial Assistance Form.

 

24/2/10 - New Club Record

Connor Mulholland broke the U16 male club record for 2000m Steeplechase (76.2cm) whilst competing at the NSW Secondary All Schools Track & Field Championships on 5Nov 2009. Connor's time of 6m 25.47s defeats the 24-year old previous record of 6m 29.1s set by T Clarsen on 23 Nov 1985. Congratulations Chuckie.

16/2/10 - New Club Records

Hame Sele has broken the U14 male club record for Discus Throw (1kg) on Feb 5 at the ANSW Permit Meeting at Illawong with his throw of 45.91m; and subsequently improved this record on Feb 14 at the NSW Junior & Youth Championships with a throw of 46.55m. These throws eclipse the previous record of 43.24m that was set by Nick Kipriotis on 9 Dec 2000.

 

Hame has also broken the U14 male club record for Javelin Throw (600g) on Feb 5 at the ANSW Permit Meeting at Illawong. His throw of 45.66m breaks the 26-year old previous record of 43.00m set by A Noisier on 27 Jan 1984.

 

Hame's record breaking performances this season have been under the guidance of coach Ray Russell.

 

15/2/10 - New Club Record

Scott Manns broke the U16 male club record for 100m Hurdles (0.840m) whilst competing at the Australian All Schools in Hobart on 4 December 2009. Scott's time of 13.94 seconds eclipses the previous record held by Christopher Barakat of 14.05 seconds since 12 December 1999. Congratulations Scott.

 

12/2/10 - Briggs Classic

Ben St Lawrence has run another outstanding race to place second in the open men's 5000m in 13:38.73 behind Collis Birmingham who broke his own meet record with 13:24.62. Video: Men's 5000m Part A, Men's 5000m Part B

 

7/2/10 - Australian Track Cycling Championships

Congratulations to St George athlete Nathan Johnston who has claimed two silver medals this week in Adelaide. Competing with pilot Matthew Meisel-Dennis, Nathan claimed podium places in the 1000m Tandem Time Trial and the 4000m Tandem Pursuit. To cap the week the pair notched up a classy time in a 200m Tandem Flying Sprint on Saturday. Well done Nathan.

 

6/2/10 - Brisbane Athletics Classic

28/1/10 - NSW 5000m Championship & Waratah Invitational

Belinda Martin has claimed another State Open Championship podium place finish with her gold medal winning performance in the NSW State 5000m Championship held at the SOPAC Warm-Up Track. Event starts were delayed by lightning and storm activity. Congratulations Belinda.

 

Bridey Delaney continued on her winning way with a comfortable win the open women's 800m event at the Waratah Series Invitational meeting that was held in conjunction with the NSW 5000m Championship. Congratulations Bridey. St George Results: NSW 5000m and Waratah Series

 

26/1/10 - Australia Day Fun Runs

St George athletes have competed well at this year's Australia Day fun runs. Chadi Elashkar won the open men's 8km event at Menai. Connor Mulholland won the under 15 men's 5km event at Canterbury, with Angus Mulholland second. Lyn Delaney won the open women's 5km event at Canterbury, and Kim Delaney finshed 3rd in the men's over 50 years category. St George Results

 

26/1/10 - Young Citizen of the Year

Congratulations to Laura Flynn who was named Rockdale City Council's Young Citizen of the Year at the Australia Day celebrations held at Peter Depena Reserve.

 

21/1/10 - Position Vacant: Registrar

The Club is looking for a volunteer to fill the role of Registrar for the coming winter cross country season from 27 March 2010.

 

The current registration period runs from 1 October 2009 to 30 September 2010, meaning that the majority of club athletes have already completed the registration process for the current season. Duties will involve accepting registrations for new members and processing these with Athletics NSW; attending to member's queries as required; and working with the Executive Committee.

 

Registration payments to Athletics NSW will continue to be made by the Club Treasurer on advice from the Registrar that registrations have been processed on the Athletics NSW Clubs Online Management Console.  Detailed instructions on how to process the registrations with Athletics NSW will be provided.

 

Prospective volunteers should contact the Club Secretary.

St George discus thrower Alix Kennedy has been invited to join Athletic Australia's Under 19 Talent Squad in 2010. Congratulations and best wishes to Alix and her coach Ray Russell.

 

10/1/10 - Research Project

St George athlete Laura Flynn is seeking assistance from other athletes to complete a short survey that has been designed to test the hypothesis "That for a variety of reasons a male athlete will always out perform a female athlete at the same event". If you can help, please print the attached pdf survey. Details for returning the completed survey are on page 2. Thank you.

 

9-10/1/10 - Narrabeen Allnighter

Congratulations to Alan Staples for completing the Narrabeen Allnighter 12 hour event. Alan finished in 10th position with a total distance covered of 88.4905km.
